IPv6 innovations

Prague, 20th November, 2009

A few innovations related to the IPv6 protocol occurred on the Dial Telecom network during summer and autumn 2009.
The IPv6 protocol resolves the basic disadvantage of the most used set of Internet protocols known as IPv4, or historically, as TCP/IP. It is expected that the IPv4 address will be exhausted in 2011, so obviously, any operators who want to be prepared for this future development cannot just stand aside, but are already currently implementing IPv6 in their networks.

The Dial Telecom a.s. network has been supporting IPv6 since 2004 and is also gradually implementing IPv6 for the Internet services it provides, not only to its customers, but also to other Internet users.
For example, the Uschovna.cz service has already been available through IPv6 for quite some time.

In addition to the above, a few other events took place this year that have moved development further ahead. The Dial Telecom network and its administration have been certified by the American company, Hurricane Electric, at the highest level, that of “sage”. The nameservers of Dial Telecom provide domain information using both protocols, IPv4 as well as IPv6. Furthermore, they can function without IPv4 altogether, as the IPv6 glue records in two different TLDs are directed to these nameservers.

Another event is cooperation with the world’s largest search engine, which is accessible in IPv6 from
the Dial Telecom network as well as via its usual address, www.google.com, and not only through
the ipv6.google.com address, as is common in the large majority of Internet networks.

Dial Telecom, a joint stock company, has been on the Czech telecommunication market for 12 years. It provides a complex portfolio of voice, data and internet services with guaranteed availability all over the Czech Republic using its own unified optical network. It is a member of the strong international telecommunication group, Dial Telecom Group (Dial Telecom ČR, Dial Telecom SK and VOLNÝ, a.s.)
